Resonant X-ray Scattering in Manganites - Study of Orbital Degree of Freedom -
Orbital degree of freedom of electrons and its interplay with spin, charge and lattice degrees of freedom are one of the central issues in colossal magnetoresistive manganites. The orbital degree of freedom has until recently remained hidden, since it does not couple directly to most of experimental probes. Development of synchrotron light sources has changed the situation; by the resonant x-ra...
متن کاملOrbital Effects in Manganites
We review some aspects related to orbital degrees of freedom in manganites. The Mn ions in these compounds have double orbital degeneracy and are strong Jahn-Teller ions, causing structural distortions and orbital ordering. We discuss ordering mechanisms and the consequences of orbital order. The additional degeneracy of low-energy states and the extreme sensitivity of the chemical bonds to the...
متن کاملOrbital-ordering-induced anomalous softening of the ferromagnetic spin waves in perovskite manganites
Spin wave excitations were measured in the ferromagnetic phase of Nd1/2Sr1/2MnO3 by neutron scattering. This compound is located in proximity to the A-type antiferromagnetic state, and it shows a clear anisotropy and anomalous softening of the spin wave excitations. The softening in the ferromagnetic phase is induced by the orbital ordering.
متن کاملSix Degree ... Of-freedom Sim1jlation of a Manned Orbital Docking
This paper describes an analog computer simulation of a manned orbital docking system conducted as a fe~sibility study. In addition to determining the possibility of a human operator performing guidance and attitude control functions with a minimum amount of displayed information, additional purposes of the study were to determine (1) terminal values of range rate, line-of-sight (LOS) angle, LO...
متن کاملComplex orbital state in manganites
The eg-orbital states with complex coefficients of the linear combination of x2 − y2 and 3z2 − r2 are studied for the ferromagnetic state in doped manganites. Especially the focus is put on the competition among uniform complex, staggered complex, and real orbital states. As the hole-doping x increases, the real, the canted complex, and the staggered complex orbital states appears successively....
